Mosquitoes are a common nuisance in Gabon, particularly in Minkébé National Park. The warm and humid climate of the region provides the perfect breeding grounds for these pesky insects. Mosquitoes are not only annoying but also pose a serious health risk as they are carriers of various diseases, including malaria, dengue fever, and yellow fever.

Year round mosquito forecast

Malaria is the most prevalent mosquito-borne disease in Gabon, with the majority of cases reported in rural areas such as Minkébé National Park. The transmission of malaria is primarily through the bite of infected Anopheles mosquitoes. Visitors to the park are advised to take precautions such as using insect repellent, wearing long-sleeved clothing, and sleeping under mosquito nets to prevent being bitten.

In addition to malaria, dengue fever and yellow fever are also of concern in Minkébé National Park. Dengue fever is transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes and can cause severe flu-like symptoms, while yellow fever can lead to jaundice, bleeding, and even death in severe cases. Vaccination against yellow fever is recommended for travelers to Gabon, especially those visiting areas with a high prevalence of the disease.
